В. The article examines the events related to the invasion on Syanok land by Transylvanian duke D. Rakots and the participation of nobility and local population in the defense of their lands in February of 1657. Despite the fact that Sanock nobility has been informed about the invasion of D. Rakots’s army in advance, they failed to provide adequate resistance to the troops of the duke. The exception was a small clash with Mtkola Vapovsky’s cavalry troop and defense of Krosno town. When Sanock nobility faced with the enemy army, which highly exceeded the mobilization capabilities of the local region, who in its turn preferred to wait out that anxious moment. On the other hand, the D. Rakots, who was claiming the Polish crown, initially tried to keep the loyalty of the local gentry. The situation changed after the union of D. Rakots’s army with A. Zhdanovych’s Cossack corps. A wave of robbers, destruction and violence that spread through the villages and towns of Sanock land completely changed the attitude of the local population not in a favor with Transylvanian duke. Encouraged by failures of D. Rakots’s campaign and his allies, Sanock nobility started active preparation to resist the forces of Transylvanian duke that were returning from an unsuccessful campaign. However Sanock nobility showed rather passive position on its military participation in operations directly within the Polish army, by referring to the threat of Sanock land and prefering to stay closer to their homes. The presence in the Russian Empire of Polish political prisoners on the eve of the First World War was the factor that somehow destabilized the political situation. Regardless of their political orientation – the central unit or the Entente countries, all of them in one way or another, were in positions restoration of Polish statehood. Therefore, going to the question of their presence on the eve of the First World War in the Russian Empire is of considerable interest for cognitive-polonistiv historians and researchers for the modern history of Russia. Literary sources of research outlined above topics can be divided into three groups: archival sources; scientific publications (monographs and articles); memoirs literature. Exactly the combination of these sources makes it possible to recover more or less integrated and objective picture of the presence in the Russian Empire Polish political prisoners, and their role and participation in the decision of the Polish question. At that time in prisons, in penal and in exile, in Russia were thousands of Polish revolutionaries belonging to two Polish left-wing parties: SDKPL, PPS-left and also centreright party to – PPS – “revolutionary factions.” Particularly large numbering among political prisoners and vyslantsiv were members SDKPL. Most of them were serving imprisonment and exile for participation in the First Russian Revolution. Besides from Siberia, some Poles – opponents of the tsarist regime – was in exile and in some provinces of the European part of the Russian Empire; specifically, in exile in Vologda province. If we characterize the political complement of prisoners and Polish exiles, that were above-mentioned territory, it was marked a huge variegated of political views and moods. Expounded facts about prisoners and exiled Poles are not exhaustive, they can give only a general notion of the large group of Polish community, members of national liberation and revolutionary movement in Poland, which were before World War II imprisoned in the king ‘prison, in convict colony and political exile in different parts of the Russian Empire. This article considers the results of the introduction agrarian reforms by the Polish government which included systematic agricultural colonization of the Ukrainian lands by Polish with the help of military and civilian colonization. The agricultural policy has not stopped the process of pauperization of the peasant farms exacerbated social and national contradictions between the Ukrainian and Polish people of the region. Eastern Galicia and a western part of Volyn of the interwar period of the last century became the center of socioeconomic and socio-political inter-ethnic conflict between the Ukrainian and Polish people of the region. The government of Poland tried to give “Eastern lands” the Polish character and it held systematic agricultural policy in the eastern and south-eastern provinces which included the development of Ukrainian lands with the help of military and civilian colonists. They have become the social support of the economic policy of the government in the eastern border of Poland. It should be mention that agricultural reform which was led by the Polish government, starting from the legal normative base and completing its realization, was anti-Ukrainian. The consequence of socio-economic policy of the state the aggravation of the land problem and discontent of the Ukrainian peasants that was one of the main reason of peasant protests and development of the Ukrainian national liberation movement. The occupation of the Crimea in March, 2014 by the Russian Federation updates versatile understanding of the Crimean issue in the context of territorial, military, political, economic, and geopolitical tensions in Ukrainian-Russian intergovernmental relations. The article reveals the essence of Ukrainian-Russian interstate misunderstandings of the 1990s concerning the Crimea and their legal framework. It is noted that the complexity of the problem, and hence its ambiguity and in many cases a complete alternative treatment options or concrete steps to address the authorities of Ukraine and Russia (in fact based on a single political and legal documentary framework of the late 1940s – early 1990s) were caused by changes in socio-economic and political conditions under which the problem originated, was realized, became topical and practically solved. Representatives of the legislative power of Russia stressed the legal illegitimacy of the transfer of the Crimean region to Ukraine in 1954 and, thus, the absolute right of Russia to the Crimea and Sevastopol as a base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. For its part, Ukraine, refuting these claims put forward counterarguments that the Crimea together with Sevastopol belonged to Ukraine. Specificity of the “Crimean problem” at the international level in the 1990s was determined by global processes: elimination of systems of Eastern European socialism and bipolar division of the world, the collapse of the USSR, historically non-traditional approach to economic, political and legal formation of Ukraine and Russia as independent states, as well as their choice of geopolitical strategies. The peculiarity of this problem was the importance of distant economic interests or political aim of the participants of the official Ukrainian-Russian relations of the 1990s engaged in finding solutions to it. Transition situation of the political system, the uncertainty of its social and legal foundations resulted in temporary tactical alliances, extremely ideological approaches, multiplicity of standards in dealing with territorial and military issues, which after receiving legal registration (bilateral and multilateral agreements, contracts etc.) created political and legal framework for further contradictions and conflicts. The large-scale Ukrainian-Russian Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership, signed in March, 1997 became a peculiar finale of the Ukrainian-Russian relations of the 1990s. The signed treaty, in fact, secured sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine on the part of Russia, but on the other hand legalization of the long-term stay of the Russian Fleet in the Crimea enabled the RF to gain control of the part of the Ukrainian territory, maritime communication, airspace, and hence to have a considerable impact on Ukraine’s foreign policy. Especially negative effects for Ukraine were saving the Russian military presence in the Crimea and exercising military control over the peninsula. The latter, in fact, greatly facilitated the implementation of Russian military aggression and annexation of the Crimea in February-March, 2014, which was a major violation of basic norms of international law, in particular the UN Charter, the provisions of the Helsinki Final Act, Budapest Memorandum of 1994, and bilateral Ukrainian-Russian international treaties. The analyses difficult and contradictory relations between Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and Germany at the beginning of the Second world war, formation of military-political doctrine and OUN’s geopolitical strategy during struggle for the independent Ukrainian state. Dramatic events of the beginning of the Second world war came always into the notice of society. However, some of them need clarification and detailed study up to this time. I issues related to the evolution of relations of Ukrainian nationalistic movement and military policy of Organization of the Ukrainian nationalists during September 1939 to 1941, belong to actual questions of research. When Germany planned to transform Ukraine into the colony, OUN searched for the ways of Ukrainian regular military powers renewal, which wanted to direct for nation and state revival. To the beginning of the Second world war, the leaders of Ukrainian nationalistic movement were predisposed to orientate on Germany, as, in fact, Germanywas interested in change of European political map. Only conflict between Germany and Poland, and in a prospect with the main enemy – USSR – gave the Ukrainian people a hope to revive the independent state with all Ukrainian ethnic lands. Attitude of OUN toward nazi Germany was based on external nationally political plans and was an ordinary conception, directed to find favourable forces in the world and eventual allies. At the beginning of the Second world war relations between Ukrainian nationalistic movement and Germany were situational, undergoing permanent changes depending on a geopolitical situation. They passed an evolution from collaboration in military sphere to complete imperception of nazi ideology and secret struggle against Germany. Nonrandomly, that on a turning point of 1941–1942 the nazi organs of safety came to the conclusion that except of Bandera’s OUN, Ukraine has no organization of resistance that would be able to cause a serious danger. In relations between OUN and nazi Germany the point is about the typical example of episodic and brief tactical collaboration of both sides, strategic aims of which were fundamentally different. The question is about preparing of common tactic of actions, advantageous in a certain situation both for OUN and Germans. At the beginning of the Second world war OUN was oriented on Germany, as it was the political opponent of USSR. However OUN’s leaders tried to operate and determine their own position under any circumstances, proceeding from the national interests, and to use all of the favourable geopolitical circumstances for achievement of own strategic and tactical purpose – renewal of the Ukrainian statehood and defence of it by a national army. Today is obvious, that in 1939–1941 years there were no objective conditions for formation of the Ukrainian independent state, however. undoubtedly, that OUN’s military-political activity was based on aspiration of the Ukrainian people to get the independence and defined the new stage of national liberation struggle for the Ukrainian independence. Despite of that this attempt suffered a defeat, it played a ponderable role in the awareness of considerable part of Ukrainian society about the importance of existence of the national state and necessity of its defending both in political and in military struggle. Тhe characteristic of official documents OUN 1929-1939 biennium.
