The qualification thesis titled "Journalists in Politics: Global Success Stories" is dedicated to the analysis of the phenomenon of journalists transitioning into political careers. The study explores how professional skills inherent to journalism — particularly message formulation, information management, and audience communication — contribute to success in the political arena. It examines international cases of journalists who have gained political recognition, including: Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, who combined journalism, science, and diplomacy; Helen Thomas, a prominent political journalist who shaped public opinion in Washington for over half a century; and Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, whose career in journalism significantly influenced his political style and strategies. The first chapter offers a general overview of journalism’s influence on politics, presenting journalism as a vital component of political processes. The second chapter focuses on the life and work of Benjamin Franklin — a renowned politician, diplomat, and journalist. The third chapter is devoted to Helen Thomas, one of the most notable American journalists, who spent five decades at the center of political developments and historic events. The fourth and final chapter examines Boris Johnson, who rose to prominence as a publicist and skillfully used media to build and advance his political career. The total length of the thesis is 58 pages. The key concepts addressed in the research include: journalism, politics, political communication, media influence, information space, professional transformation, and leadership. In conclusion, this thesis demonstrates that journalists are capable of effectively adapting to the political sphere by leveraging their communicative competencies and skills in shaping public opinion. The findings may be valuable for further research in the field of political journalism.
Object and subject of research: The Russia Today television channel, the global information space, and Ukraine’s information space. The aim of the work: Determine how the Russia Today (RT) television channel has exerted informational influence on Ukraine during the period from 2014 to 2024, which narratives, methods, and means it uses to shape a distorted image of the Ukrainian state, and how effective the response to these influences has been on the part of the international community, Ukrainian society, the state, and the media sector. Research results: The study found that RT is a strategic tool of Russia’s foreign information policy, systematically spreading propaganda narratives aimed at undermining trust in Ukrainian institutions, cultivating anti-Western sentiment, and legitimizing Russian aggression. Despite international sanctions and blocks, RT maintains its influence through adaptive rhetoric, the use of modern media formats, and targeted messaging. Ukraine and its partners require a consistent information security strategy, robust media literacy education, and a globally coordinated approach to counter such threats.
