Role of biomass resources in promotion of renewable energy
(Видавництво Львівської політехніки, 2013) Singh, Tejinder; Dhingra, Arvind
The world especially the developing countries are facing an increasing power crunch. The conventional energy resources are fast depleting and there is an urgent need to find out new avenues of energy to cater to this increasing demand. It is here the energy from biomass finds its place. Although we have been using energy from biomass since the time man learned to burn wood for energy but with the growing technological innovations this energy can be harnessed to meet the growing energy demands. On a worldwide scale Biomass contributes about 12% to today's primary energy supply, rising between 40% and 50% in most developing countries. Biomass fuel obtained from purpose-grown energy crops as well as forests and agricultural waste are being used in power plants and it is very competitive in price and quality with fossil fuels. Applying biomass technology is both an environmental and human necessity, whether on a local scale to get rid of slurries, waste and refuses, or on a global scale to reduce carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere and hence reduce global warming. Scientists are busy in developing different ways of converting biomass into a form that meets our energy needs, while making best use of the available energy. In this paper an attempt has been made to project the biomass conversion and the new emerging techniques of harnessing power from biomass and also from the other biofuels such as Bio-oil and Bioethanol. Hence an attempt has been made through different techniques in this paper that in developing country like India, how much emphasis need to be given on such renewable energy sources for preservation of conventional sources of energy.

Various concerns regarding monitoring& measurement of power quality problems
(Видавництво Львівської політехніки, 2011) Singh, Tejinder; Dhingra, Arvind
Power quality has been catching the attention of researchers worldwide. With the advent of more and more semiconductor based equipments, the power quality standards have been re-written. There are many causes of power quality problems, voltage sags/swells, harmonics, fast impulses or subcycle impulses, neutral to ground high frequency noise etc. Some of these occur very frequently and cause problems and others (such as 1 nanosecond or 0.5 nanosecond impulses) either occur very rarely or cause problems rarely. It is important to evaluate power quality level and identify the source of faults that origin electrical disturbances in electrical power systems, which determines the responsibility of a bad quality of power. In order to evaluate and identify the disturbances and its origin, power quality monitoring is the tool that utilities and customers can use. This paper attempts to review the power quality issues including ways of monitoring power quality and also the effect of harmonics on power quality.

Energy saving using energy auditing techniques – a case study for a steel power plant
(Видавництво Львівської політехніки, 2011) Singh, Tejinder; Dhingra, Arvind
An industry is the major commercial energy consuming sector in India, where electrical energy is the most common and widely used type of energy. As the demand and price of energy are increasing day by day. Therefore, the subject of energy conservation is a concern for most energy users particularly industry. Judicious use of energy becomes imperative for third world developing country being presence of energy crisis. This paper provides some measure for energy saving that can be commonly recommended for a rolling unit of steel industry. A case of hot rolling unit in JSL Stainless Ltd., Hisar for energy conservation is given. Overall improvement in energy consumption in light of the stated recommendation is illustrated along with the proposed utilization of the techniques and their applications. Energy conservation in conventional motor with replacement or use of star delta star converter, reduction in cable losses, replacement of filament of LED lamps, replacement of conventional transformer with cast resin dry type transformer and provision of energy management system for energy conservation and per unit production cost reduction are elaborated in this paper.
