As the criterion of optimality the cost of drilling of the given interval is chosen. Taking into account that a number of parameters included in the optimality criterion can be estimated only approximate, such values are considered as fuzzy numbers. Як критерій оптимальності вибрано вартість буріння заданого інтервалу. З огляду на те, що цілий ряд параметрів, які входять у критерій оптимальності, можна оцінити лише наближено, тому такі величини розглядаються як нечіткі числа. Останнє допущення дало змогу детерміновану задачу нелінійного програмування переформувати у задачу нечіткого нелінійного програмування.
