Locomotive axle arrangements describe the wheel arrangement of locomotives, multiple units and trams. Classification of locomotive axle arrangements in Ukraine known as «axle formula». According to this classification, it is impossible to describe some varieties of locomotive axle arrangements or special rolling stock units. The UIC classification of locomotive axle arrangements is used in much of the world. The article provides examples of axle formulas according to different classification systems, and also suggests using the UIC classification of locomotive axle arrangements in Ukraine.

The issue of increasing the reliability of operation of electric locomotives of mainline and industrial railway transport, in particular the elements of the mechanical part, is considered. The design of the nodes supporting the locomotive body on the bogie frame should ensure good dynamic qualities of the locomotive, which allows operation at a higher speed, while the traction characteristics of the locomotive and safety of movement should be ensured. The relevance of this work is emphasized by the increase in the volume of freight transportation and the use of electric freight locomotives in passenger transportation, which significantly affects both the rail track and the wear of individual elements of the mechanical part that interact with each other. This is especially true for friction assemblies, side supports, and cradle suspension. A comparative analysis of the work of cradle suspension units of different locomotives was carried out. The main factors affecting the increased wear of individual elements of the mechanical part, including the cradle suspension, have been established. The existing and prospective elements of body support nodes are analyzed. Recommendations are given for increasing the operational reliability of the mechanical part of electric locomotives.
