Modeling of sewer networks by means of directed graphs
(Lviv Politechnic Publishing House, 2017-03-21) Berko, Andriy; Zhuk, Volodymyr; Sereda, Igor; Lviv Polytechnic National University
The paper presents an analysis of the known theoretical models of drainage network of the city as directed graphs of different types. It is proved that ringing sewer networks increases reliability of their work and improves maneuverability and regulation of drainage system as a whole. A theory of solving the optimization problem “capacity – economic efficiency” was proposed to design optimization schemes for sewage system, using the straightdual algorithmproposed by Saharovych.

Experimental research of withdrawal of oil remains from the used “KOLLAN” oil filters
(Lviv Politechnic Publishing House, 2017-03-21) Holik, Yury; Ganoshenko, Elena; Poltava National Technical Yuriy Kondratiuk University
This article provides the results of research of withdrawal of oil remains as a valuable resource from the filter elements of used oil filters in order to reuse them. The possibility of effective utilization (recycling) of the used filter paper with reduced capacity of ambient air is also considered in the research.

Analysis of phosphorus speciation in primary sludge in the annual cycle
(Lviv Politechnic Publishing House, 2017-03-21) Bezak-Mazur, Elżbieta; Stoińska, Renata; Szeląg, Bartosz; Kielce University of Technology
The objective of the research was to investigate phosphorus speciation in sewage sludge in order to determine the amount of the element that can be assimilated by plants after the application of sludge for nature-related purposes. Since the possibility of using sludge for such purposes is of considerable importance, this paper analyses the content of different phosphorus speciation forms (including the bioavailable ones) in primary sludge. The studies’ results indicate that the maximum share of mobile forms (Ca-EDTA+Na- EDTA) in primary sludge in the annual cycle amounts to merely 46 %. This confirms the observation that in the examined period the hardly-available, organic phosphorus forms are dominant (fractions H2SO4 and NaOH). Therefore, after the application of primary sludge for nature-related purposes, only a small portion of phosphorus included therein is assimilated by plants.

Decreasing anthropogenic pressure on soil microflora by using capsulated fertilizers
(Lviv Politechnic Publishing House, 2017-03-21) Tymchuk, Ivan; Malovanyy, Myroslav; Holets, Nataliya; Lviv Polytechnic National University
This article focuses on finding ways to preserve soil fertility. At the present time, in conditions of intensive farming, do not pay attention to such an important part of the agricultural ecosystem as soil microflora. An impact on the number of total and nitrogen-fixing microorganisms of the soil at bringing different types of fertilizers on the most common types of soil of Lviv region are determined.

Investigation of the processes of chemical (ACID) labilizing of clinoptilolite
(Lviv Politechnic Publishing House, 2017-03-21) Troszkiy, Volodymyr; Hnativ, Zoriana; Duleba, Vasyl; Kriuchenko, Tetiana; Lviv Polytechnic National University
The results of research of the chemical activation process of clinoptilolite from Sokirnytskyi field are shown. As a result of the research, the effectiveness of the influence on zeolite hydrochloric and sulfuric acids are compared. It should be noted that the advantage is on the side of hydrochloric acid. It was established that the increase in the concentration of sulfuric acid and the time of zeolite processing leads only to the increase in the content of the amorphous phase. As a result of the experiment, optimal conditions for zeolite activation: reagent – hydrochloric acid, concentration of acid – 7 %, the processing time – 2 hours, phase ratio T:R – 1:2 were selected.

Ways to minimize environmental hazards from pollution of the environment in the zone of influence of the Hrybovychi landfill
(Lviv Politechnic Publishing House, 2017-03-21) Malyovanyy, Myroslav; Sliusar, Vira; Sereda, Andriy; Lviv Polytechnic National University
The article analyzes the environmental risks of existing landfills in Ukraine (on the example of Hrybovytske landfill). The possible treatment technologies of the accumulated infiltrates were analysed and the successful application of infiltrates biological treatment technology in aerobic lagoons was confirmed. It was shown that the problem of introducing innovative technologies for solid waste management could be solved only by a complex approach: creating the conditions for technical and biological remediation of existing landfills and providing a system of measures with the aim of preventing environmental pollution.

Assessing the impact of Sumy CHP on soil
(Lviv Politechnic Publishing House, 2017-03-21) Pliatsuk, Leonid; Hurets, Larysa; Miakaieva, Hanna; Miakaiev, Oleksandr; Sumy State University
The paper presents assessment of the impact of Sumy CHP when pollutants come into soils with atmospheric precipitation and filtration from the area of the ash and slug dump. Samples of snow were tested for the content of heavy metals and ash particles. Soil samples were tested for the content of heavy metals. The conducted research showed a high degree of soil contamination in the area of Sumy CHP influence.

Using the Modified Redfield Ratio to estimate Harmful Algal Blooms
(Lviv Politechnic Publishing House, 2017-03-21) Hushchyna, Kateryna; Nguyen-Quang, Tri; Biofluids and Biosystems Modeling Lab (BBML)
Many waterbodies across Nova Scotia (Canada) have been experiencing algal blooms occurring in large numbers and diversity, without knowledge or understanding about their causes and effects. Algal blooms have appeared in Mattatall Lake (ML) and other lakes of the province in recent years. ML experienced severe algal blooms in 2013. During the fall of 2014, massive algal blooms appeared in ML, and persisted until late December 2014. The blooms have a pattern of being nontoxic in the summer and potentially toxic in the fall-winter season, with nutrients increasing on a monthly basis. This phenomenon is unusual as algal blooms have not been known to last until the winter season or coexist with icy conditions. The dominant species in this bloom was identified to be Anabaena planctonica (Dolicospermum planctonicum) with a cell count around 250 000 cells/mL, which may produce the neurotoxin Anatoxin-a. This cell count is approximately two and a half times higher than the alert level 2 guideline from World Health Organization’s drinking water standards (WHO, 2003). The goal of this paper is to use an index (Modified Redfield Ratio, hereafter called MRR) to estimate the HAB occurrence the Mattatall lake (Nova Scotia, Canada), served as a pilot site for our pioneering systematic study in order to evaluate the recent bloom phenomena in the entire province of Nova Scotia.
