Abstract
У статті проаналізовано основні аспекти діяльності св. Івана Павла ІІ у площині захисту прав людини.
В основу дослідження покладено промови, енцикліки та інші папські документи. Джерела проаналізовані в
історичній ретроспективі на основі ключових історичних подій останньої третини ХХ – початку ХХІ ст. Такий
аналітичний дискурс набуває особливої актуальності з огляду на те, що понтифікат К. Войтили припав на складні
суспільно-політичні процеси у світовій та європейській історії, зокрема гострі міжнародні конфлікти, війни, поділ
Європи Берлінським муром, радянську пропаганду, розпад СРСР, парад суверенітетів тощо. У контексті
розгортання цих проблемних подій порушувався цілий спектр засадничих прав людини. Отже, на основі тематики
прав людини у ключі зіставлення історичного та сучасного контексту можна простежити важливі для сучасності квінтесенції.
The human rights became one of the most important issues for the newly elected Pope John Paul II in 1978. A large number of speeches and documents of the Pope are devoted to this subject. He spoke in defense of human rights both in the moral (based on theological arguments) and in the legal (referring to important legal documents, mentioning the international human rights organizations) aspects. The Pope has called for the respect of human rights, human life and dignity. This activity was demanded by the actual social challenges of this period: the consequences of totalitarian ideologies, wars and conflicts greatly reduced human dignity; in spite of the adopted legislative acts, there were violations of fundamental rights. The main aspects of the activity of St. John Paul II in the field of human rights protection are analysed in the paper. The study is based on the speeches, encyclicals and other papal documents. The sources are investigated in historical retrospective on the basis of key historical events of the last third of the XX – the beginning of the XXI century. This issue is very important considering that pontificate of K. Wojtyla was in the period of complex social and political processes in world history, including acute international conflicts, the partitioning of Europe by the BerlinWall, Soviet propaganda, the collapse of the USSR, the parade of sovereignty and so on. Thus, it is possible to trace the quintessential important aspects for the present on the basis of the theme of human rights with approach of juxtaposition of historical and contemporary context.
