Abstract

The protection of human rights is determined by many factors. Many kinds of actions can be undertaken in the situation of human rights infringement. The question is how to avoid the violations of human rights, rather than how to provide compensatory measures after the breach of each right. This problem is especially relevant in terms of imprisonment, when human rights are endangered by the behaviour of other criminals and in some situations by prison staff. It should be taken into account that the level of prison service education in the field of human rights protection, influences on the respect for human rights in their daily work. The aim of the co-authors is to present the relationship between the appropriate training of prison staff and the respect for human rights. The paper includes the comparison of methods, which are used in training of polish prison staff and irish programmes. The presentation contains the reference to international standards in the matter of prison staff training. Not only the content of the programmes is described in the paper, but also the time, which should be set aside for the fulfilment of the material, is analysed in the paper.
