(Видавництво Львівської політехніки, 2017-06-08) Кулина, Ольга; Національний університет «Львівська політехніка»
This article is aimed at the systemic description of the body of adjectives used in English Last Wills and Testaments. The corpus of research contains 50 English Last Wills and Testaments written between 1837-2000. The suggested approach to the description is based on the notion of semantic field. Having defined semantic field as a group of words possessing the same conceptual meaning, characterized by certain relations between lexemes and belonging to the same part of speech, the author singles out six semantic fields of adjectives which occur in English Last Wills and Testaments:1) adjective which have a common feature of sequence; 2) adjectives which have a common feature of ownership and describe property and business; 3) adjectives which characterize personality and are used to describe people; 4) adjectives which have a common feature of life boundary; 5) adjectives which have common a feature of legitimacy 6) adjectives which have a common feature of distribution and describe the way of payment. It is substantiated that the relations between the lexical units in each group are based on synonymy in most of the cases. Some subfields are defined by relations of antonymy or are arranged as a circle or sequence.

(Видавництво Львівської політехніки, 2017-06-08) Карамишева, Ірина; Національний університет «Львівська політехніка»
The presented research focuses on the functional peculiarities of modal verbs as means of modality expression in legal discourse with the aim to define the frequency of their usage in distribution agreements. The material selected for the research consists of 100 English contracts as corpora for the analysis. All the analyzed documents have been taken from the Internet sourses. The average length of each of the analyzed texts is about 17,000 words in one text. On the basis of the material presented in the theoretical English grammars, basic modal verbs were selected and became the object of study. The examples of modal verbs usage in the distribution agreements were analyzed, which allowed describing their basic functional characteristics as well as combinability patterns. It was found that the value of modal verbs is created by context and grammatical structures in which they are used. The frequency of occurrence of specific modal verbs in legal texts is different from their usage in common everyday language. The analysis leads to the conclusion that there is a need to conduct further studies that will determine exact translations of each modal verb and themorphological and syntactic forms they take.

(Видавництво Львівської політехніки, 2017-06-08) Levyk, Zoriana; Shynkaruk, Vira; Lviv Polytechnic National University
The article deals with the so called Estuary English (an accent of English which originated near London within the estuary of the Thames – hence its name). Characteristic features of this accent are discussed. Its peculiarities are compared with the characteristic features of Received Pronunciation and non-standard Cockney speech, the dialect of native Londoners. The issue of the Estuary English social status is also discussed, since certain researchers claim that this accent is likely to gain the status of standard English accent, especially taking into account the increasing number of native speakers who defy Received Pronunciation.
