The European Tradition: Two Paradigms.Item Nature and mission of heritage in modernity: impacts of nationalism(Publishing House of Lviv Polytechnic National University, 2015) Kulevičius, SalvijusРозглянуто тему походження, характеру і місії сучасної культурної спадщини. Item Negotiations of the directory with the french command in Odessa in 1919 in the military-theoretical heritage of general Olexander Grekov(Видавництво Львівської політехніки, 2020-02-10) Панас, Наталія; Panas, Nataliia; Національний університет “Львівська політехніка”; Lviv Polytechnic National UniversityУ статті проаналізовано частину мемуарної спадщини генерала Грекова О. Item The image of Ukraine in the US publications of 1920s–1930s(Lviv Politechnic Publishing House, 2019-02-26) (An Atlas of current Affairs). Item Археологічні матеріали Ярослава Пастернака у музейних колекціях(Publishing House of Lviv Polytechnic National University, 2014) Терський, С. А. This article analyzes the fate of archaeological findings obtained in research famous Ukrainian archaeologist Jaroslav Pasternak, especially during excavations in the princely capitals of Galicia, Zvenigorod, Terebovlia, Belz, Plisnesk. Scientists do not have time to properly organize and explore gathered during the excavation finds. Full reports on the excavations J. Pasternak been published (perhaps they are part of the collection at Harvard University, USA). The main beneficiaries of the findings of field expeditions J. Pasternak were Ukrainian National Museum in Lviv Museum of Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society. From the first museum J. Pasternak worked since 1913, he was director of another for 1929– 1939 biennium As a teacher of the Theological Academy in Lviv, some of their findings J. Pasternak also kept in the museum of the institution. 1940 most of the archaeological collections of J. Pasternak was in the collections of the Lviv History Museum. Due to large volumes of work with a lot of new replenishment on time were not taken into account, and as a result, lost to science. For example, only in 1942 was accounted most of the collection from the excavations of 1940 Plisnesk (including ceramics). For a bulk sample collection was usual inventory of archaeological finds. Thus, in the main book revenues fell primarily NTSh museum called individual findings – tools, ornaments, etc. Attention is drawn to the almost complete absence of pottery among then finds from excavations Krylos. The majority of the finds of excavations in Krylos J. Pasternak (1934– 1940 years) had been registered only in 1945. This is evident also in case of collections of other attractions Middle Ages studied J. Pasternak – Belz, Zvenigorod, multitude and others. The reason for this could be lack of funds to pay for the required number of workers. Big massive collection of artefacts may cumulatively recorded in the book supporting the museum NTSh. Objects from the collections of J. Pasternak’s 1944 hit list exported to Germany. Substantiated opinion on the important role of these materials in the initial stage of formation of the archaeological collections of major museums stock of the city. On the basis of analysis of scientific sources in the given article was made an attempt to highlight the life of the metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi, follow his charity and patronage activities in the field of cultural-artistic heritage and emphasize the importance and impact of its work on stimulus spiritual and cultural development of the Ukrainian people. One of the most powerful figures of the 20th century who had extraordinary authority and influence on Ukrainian history and culture was the figure of Andrey Sheptytskyi. His personality harmoniously combines not only encyclopedic erudition and spiritual grace but also extraordinary gift of a leader who founded schools, academies, supported theological studios, secular education, media and the arts. The purpose of this article is to recollect Metropolitan’s life, and especially his sacrificial patronage activities in the field of promotion of Ukrainian culture. This year the Ukrainian community will celebrate 150th birth anniversary of A. Sheptytskyi. There are a number of works devoted to the life of Andrey Sheptytsky. They mostly relate to his church and public activities. Studies have drawn attention to the charities of the metropolitan. These works include research of L. Voloshyn, O. Gavryliuk, O. Kravchenyuk, L. Roshchina, O. Sydor, etc. Unfortunately, there aren’t so many integrate works on the current subject. Therefore, an aim of the paper is an attempt to analyze the philanthropic activity of the metropolitan Sheptytsky. The scientific significance of the theme is complemented by its political relevance in a modern life of Ukraine. Today Ukrainians as never before understand the meaning of words to be a benefactor and philanthropist. Especially when trouble hit on our land and numerous people need help. The activity of volunteers of various NGOs indicates a large number of people who selflessly and sincerely helping people who are in need. One should remember that the history of our nation is full of charity – generous, selfless and truly Christian. A striking example of this is the life of religious and civic activist Andrey Sheptytskyi. The metropolitan has paid much attention to the development of cultural and educational life of Galicians. It contributed to the awakening of national consciousness of Ukrainian population. In 1902, the Metropolitan assisted to the opening of Ukrainian school in Stanislav, and in 1910 at a meeting in Vienna of the House of lords insisted on establishing of Ukrainian university in Lviv. In 1913 the Austrian Emperor issued a decree according to which Ukrainian university in Lviv was opened September 1, 1916. The Russian Empire accepted this fact hostile. Therefore, when the First World War began and Russian troops entered the territory of Galicia. The Metropolitan A. Sheptytsky was arrested and taken away to Russia as Ukrainian patriot. It is necessary to distinguish A. Sheptytskyi patronage in the preservation and development of Ukrainian art. The Metropolitan believed that an essential step in the development of the spirituality of the Ukrainian people is a conservation Ukrainian iconography. In support of this idea the Church Museum was opened in 1905. Later it received the status of Ukrainian National Museum of Lviv. The museum’s funds saved one of the largest collections of Ukrainian icons due to the financial assistance of A. Sheptytskyi and hard and dedicated work of a museum director I. Svientsítskyi and his colleagues. Thus, in 1905 the Metropolitan purchased 15 thousand exhibits for the museum totaling 2 million kroons. And later A. Sheptytskyi managed to buy a magnificent palace to improve preserve of Ukrainian museum rarities (present address - 42 Dragomanova Street). Metropolitan not only kept the spiritual heritage of the past, he also saw the need to contribute to the future development of Ukrainian culture, training and education of future national artistic intelligentsia. A. Sheptytskyi offered to create an artistic school for talented Ukrainian youth who have brought the Ukrainian art from the state of provincialism and obscurantism to the next level by using their education and talent. The Metropolitan invited to Lviv from Krakow O. Nowakowski, who supported him financially. They have commonly developed an implementation of workshops for young artists. In 1923-1935 the first Ukrainian art school in Galicia started its work. AndreySheptytskyi led the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) in a difficult period for our nation. But he knew that the only real opportunity to prove to the world the existence of the nation is to show its creative spiritual greatness. As a head of the church and wealthy man, he had a great chance to implement this idea. The metropolitan devoted himself to serving God and protection of the interests of the Ukrainians. Thus, the figure of the metropolitan A. Sheptytskyi is one of the most outstanding in our modern history. He is an example of a comprehensive gifted person with a deep analytic mind who has managed to be a good leader of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Andrey Sheptytskyi had an active political and social position, patriotism and a spirit of aristocrats. The research paper analyzes the history of British illustrated periodicals of the late XIX – early XX century. Illustrated periodicals and newspapers both demand and supply features in the mass media market is explored. The proposed typology for illustrated print media is made according to the genre specifics and target audience of readers. The research paper attaches considerable importance to the factors responsible for the increasing of the assortment of illustrated print media and making them more available and accessible, such as constant improving of printing process and technique, the development of newspaper industry, expanding readership to the lower strata of society, the development of fine arts and visual culture etc. The development of the British illustrative publications took place within a context of quantitative increase and a qualitative improvement of the newspapers and magazines. The success of the press and publishing was closely dependent on the economic, political and social development of the United Kingdom. Since the mid-nineteenth century, the audience for periodicals in Great Britain has been greatly enlarged by including the representatives of the middle and lower classes. The increase in Britain’s population, the spread of elementary education, shortening of the weekly working hours have created favourable conditions for people to spend their leisure time for reading books and newspapers. The lowering of prices was accompanied by system of wide distribution thus has fostered the popularization of mass-circulation periodicals and newspapers. In the last third of the nineteenth century it was technically feasible to print good-quality images. However, the news media had often preferred to print timely information rather than illustrative materials. Among illustrated periodicals, better-educated reading public have preferred to the literary and art journals. Their illustrations reflected all the trends of the fine arts of this time. On the other hand, a large number of illustrated newspapers and magazines suited tastes and preferences of less-educated and more unpretentious audience, and have mainly been illustrated in traditional style. At the same time, such printed publication as “Punch” or “The Illustrated London News” has been a sort of a standard of quality among illustrated periodicals and were in great demand in a large segment of readers. In the article it is analysed the collection of the hook-bat weapon of the L’viv historical museum, the time and the sources of formation of giving collection. The formation of museum collections of the firearm is the most important element of the museologyand military history. The problems of the history of firearm and its museum collections are very important nowadays. But unfortunately, it has not been explored enough yet. М. Real monuments found during archaeological research, do not often get adequate coverage in the scientific literature. Usually this is due to the priority research areas. The researchers usually refer to their findings only while enumerating the material, and focus their attention on other aspects. This situation is typical for blown products. Therefore, there is a necessary task of studying blown glass complexes located in the museums which were not the subject of a separate research study. Special attention in the article is focused on the collection of glass wares, which was found in Pidhirtsi and is stored in the Historical Museum of Wynnyky, and blown glass products from the Historical Museum of Volodymyr-Volynskyi. Findings from Pidhirtsi were found during excavations on the territory of Pidhirci Monastery of St. Basil the Great while Volodymyr-Volynskyi glass comes from surveys as well as from chance finds in the city and its environs. Glass products in the above mentioned museums are various bottles, glasses, pharmacy utensils, etc. Based on additional literature, the study of museum collections allows a provisional classification of blown products on the functional-typological principle: vessels for storing liquids and bulk materials, vessels for drinking, pharmacy utensils; window glass; figured glass; other glass products. Continued study of similar museum collections will allow this classification to be concretized. At the same time, specifying the number, the parameters and the shape of glass products, their finishes and finding similarities will allow to determine the level of blown glass industry development in general and blown glass craftsmanship in particular. In the article the specification of the image of the Holodomor in the historical memory of the Ukrainian people is concerned. The conclusion is drawn, that this image has mostly victim character. It happened because a lot of people were exterminated during a very shot period and nobody was accused for that crime. The modern discourse of Ukrainian scientists stimulates that feeling because of its concentration on the suffering of victims and negative consequences of the Holodomor for the further history of the Ukrainian people. Thatconsciousness of self as a victimby a big part of Ukrainians during the period of Holodomorand dozens of years after it under the dictatorial communist regime is very dangerous for the mentality of their moderndescendants, because that feeling can bear the negative feelings of passivity and fatality. But it’s not aloud, that the information about the Holodomor could create inside of our contemporaries the feeling of danger, make them afraid of the state power. Now a lot of Ukrainians have these feelings also every fifth Ukrainian is afraid of repeating of the famine. The Ukrainians need the positive feelings of optimism, faith on their own forces, their capability to create a good future for their children. They need a discourse that could create a feeling of dignity. The author tries to find some positive facts in the Holodomor history, that can motivate the modern Ukrainians for building of the welfare society. Those are the facts of heroism of the Ukrainians fighting the communist system during 1929–1933 years, especially the murders of communist activists, the facts of altruism and successful building of high-developed state. It is necessary to form the strong thinking about legitimacy of the state power that kill its people, make them die because of famine. Such a power could be changed without any doubt. Everybody has a right to fight such a regime and to change it.Item
